Lodge Profile
The Old Ellesmerian Lodge No. 5368 was consecrated on 3rd December 1932 and took place in the Great Hall at Ellesmere College, Ellesmere
The Lodge meets regularly four times a year on a Saturday afternoon in the months of March and May (second Saturday), September and October (third Saturday) at
The North Shropshire Masonic Rooms NSMR), Castle Hill, Whitchurch, SY13 1BQ.
In the past the lodge has met in other months and locations.
The afternoon begins with a Ceremony or an educational presentation followed by other Lodge business. This is followed at about 1900h by a formal meal called the Festive Board at the same location and the evening normally ends between 2100h. and 2200h.
The evening has its formal elements as well as time to catch up with old friends and to get to know new ones.
Rehearsals for Ceremonies occur occasionally, usually in the house of a member who is most convenient, geographically speaking.
New members are included early on, and most follow a well-structured progression which ultimately will lead them to become Worshipful Master of the Lodge for a year. Brethren are encouraged to visit other Lodges, perhaps join other Orders and/or do other work according to their inclination and abilities.
In addition to Masonic meetings, the Lodge holds some social events and informal gatherings. Money raised by the Lodge is donated to its own charities, to the Shropshire funds and also to the national Masonic charities, which give impressive donations to many worthy causes.
The Old Ellesmerian Lodge membership is drawn from former pupils and Staff of the College, and more recently, parents/guardians of pupils, wherever they live. Currently, we have one member who lives in Devon and one in The Isle of Man.
It is an important rule, however, that religion and politics should never be discussed at a Masonic meeting. Experienced members are tasked with supporting new Brethren through our Mentoring system.
We enjoy our Masonry!
